How Many AIIMS Built By Modi Government?

The Modi government has sanctioned the construction of 16 new AIIMS under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). Of these, 15 have been approved by the cabinet and one (AIIMS Raebareli) was approved by the UPA government in 2009. As of July 2023, 13 of the 16 AIIMS sanctioned by the Modi government are under various stages of operationalisation. These include:

AIIMS Bhubaneswar
AIIMS Bhopal
AIIMS Jodhpur
AIIMS Patna
AIIMS Raipur
AIIMS Rishikesh
AIIMS Rishikesh
AIIMS Mangalagiri
AIIMS Nagpur
AIIMS Gorakhpur
AIIMS Kalyani
AIIMS Madurai
AIIMS Delhi (Phase II)

The remaining three AIIMS (Guwahati, Jammu, and Bilaspur) are still in the planning stage.

It is worth noting that none of the 16 AIIMS sanctioned by the Modi government are yet fully functional. However, they are all providing limited outpatient and inpatient services.

The construction of these new AIIMS is part of the Modi government's efforts to improve access to quality healthcare in India. The government has also announced plans to set up 100 new medical colleges in the next five years.

It is still too early to say how successful the Modi government's efforts to improve healthcare will be. However, the construction of new AIIMS is a step in the right direction.
